An emerging baritone in the American opera scene…

Jonathan Rhoades is an aspiring operatic performer hailing from the great state of Texas.  Interested in the entire musical process from creation to performance, he hopes to inspire a new generation of musicians and fuel a passion for classical music and vocal performance. He has studied with Matt Burns at the University of Memphis and Steve Sanders at Oklahoma State University. Previously performed roles include Masetto in Don Giovanni by Mozart, Hans in Der Vetter aus Dingsda by Eduard Künneke, Brack Weaver from Down in the Valley by Kurt Weill, the Bartender and Dater #15 in Michael Ching’s Speed Dating Tonight!, and Lieutenant Sam in The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan. He most recently performed in the Opera Memphis chorus for their productions of The Rake’s Progress by Stravinsky and Carmen by Bizet. Before graduating with his Master of Music in May 2025, he will present his degree recital entitled From Longing to Belonging and perform in the lead role of Tony in The Most Happy Fella by Loesser. In Summer of 2025, he will perform the roles of Narrator/Mysterious Man in Into the Woods by Sondheim, Zuniga in Carmen by Bizet, and Kromow from The Merry Widow by Lehár with Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point.

Jonathan Rhoades has received the incredible opportunity to debut three roles this summer at Opera in the Ozarks: Zuniga in Carmen, Kromow in The Merry Widow, and the Narrator/Mysterious Man in Into the Woods. However, in order to attend this program, he need to raise $3,500 for tuition, room & board, and travel related expenses.

In order to raise these funds, he has made the Southern Sings brand of merchandise. Click the link below to go his storefront.
